801 River Street - Casa Azul

This long-vacant, historic Victorian is adjacent to the Housing Matters campus with comprehensive services for individuals and families experiencing homelessness. That made it the perfect place to transform into seven units of permanent supportive housing for individuals who have been chronically homeless and need ongoing services to be successful in housing.

The Envision Housing team identified the opportunity and got the property under contract before it went on the market. The team then put together the capital for Housing Matters to buy the property and for development and construction. New Way Homes lent the additional funding needed to obtain project entitlement. Workbench performed design and general contracting services. In addition to New Way Homes, funding sources included Community Foundation Santa Cruz County, Santa Cruz County Bank, Common Spirit, Kaiser Permanente, and private donors. Operational support from HUD has been awarded to Housing Matters.
